Good Girl Deprogramming - Teen Edition - book cover

Why This Book Matters

Because being “good” is not the same as being safe, happy, or free.

From a young age, many girls are told to be polite, quiet, kind, helpful, and nice - no matter what.

But who does that really serve?

Good Girl Deprogramming – Teen Edition helps girls recognise the unspoken rules they’ve inherited, question where those messages came from, and start choosing their own values, voice, and boundaries.

47% of girls and young women aged 12 to 21 said that expectations about how girls and women should act, and what they should be, hold them back in life.

You don’t have to have all the answers...

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or youth worker, you play a powerful role in this journey.

The Caregiver’s Companion is your guide - with insight, conversation prompts, and reflection tools to help you support the girl in your life as she deprograms the pressure to please.

Together, the book and Caregiver's Companion help both generations unlearn, reconnect, and grow - side by side

Created by two women who lived it, studied it, and are raising children through it.

Michelle Minnikin and Caroline Bowmer are friends, collaborators and rebels with a cause - bringing together deep expertise in psychology and education, and a shared passion for raising girls who are free to be fully themselves.

What readers are saying

Alisa Richardson

The whole concept of the book is fundamentally important but rarely addressed. While my girls are certainly very familiar with - and talk about - many of the individual ideas addressed in each chapter (around cohesive control, personal safety and saying ‘no’, people pleasing to ‘fit in’ etc etc) I think it is new and extremely instructive to examine these ideas through the lens of ‘good girl conditioning.’

We believe in raising girls who can speak up, take up space, and trust their own voice.

We believe in caregivers who support that - even when it’s messy, awkward or new.

We believe in unlearning what no longer serves us, and reimagining what growing up can look like.

This is more than a workbook. It’s a movement.
One that begins with curiosity and ends with freedom.
